Poem

Come my heart, let’s contemplate
A place no feet can trod
Let’s fix our gaze and concentrate
And view the worth of God
Come let our minds investigate
Through thoughts of fertile sod
And weigh within that precious state
His value shed abroad
Dismissing all commodities
Necessities and common things
Ascending upward spiritually
To hear of whom the angels speak
Let’s leave this world alone for now
And seek to find, some way, somehow
To view our God uncommonly
And look upon Him properly
Oh what is gold, and what is myrrh?
What is new, and what is used?
What will last, and what is sure?
What is perfect, what can soothe?
Are not all these things from God?
Even to the very phrase?
But He, the greatest gift of all
Transcends the things that He creates
Prosperity and pleasure might
Satisfy you for the night
But what now heart, when morning dawns?
Is not your soul unsatisfied?
The worth of God is who He is
Not what He’s done, or what he gives
Eternal life is knowing Him
by whom you’re fully known within
O Spirit would you give us sight
Lend us vision to behold
The endless worth of Jesus Christ
The priceless portion of our souls
The wonder that we get to know
The ancient One, the Source of all
A weight to great for us to hold
The endless worth of God untold
